Since pip impedes venous return,[1] a concomitant increase in microvascular hydrostatic hurrys (Pcap) likely follows and should thereby forward tissue edema formation.[7,8] Further, an elevated Pcap during cheep should augment Qf to a greater class in sepsis than in health, since an increase in systemic microvascular permeability is characteristic of the septic state.[9] In this investigation we report that PEEP increased hindlimb Qf in the pair healthy and septic sheep.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

Experimental Preparation

A unbroken description of the model has been previously published.[10] After a five- to seven-day period of acclimatization in our laboratory, we studied ten mature Suffolk sheep weighing 30 to 40 kg (90 to 11 [msup2] material substance BSA). The tracheostomy tube was attached to a three-way connector (22 mm ID) by the agency of which humidified air flowed. Following recuperation from anesthesia, food and water were provided ad lib. Ringer's lactate solution, 50 to 100 ml/kg/day, was administered to make secure adequate hydration prior to the experiments.
